The Travellers Trophy is given to the helm achieving the best aggregate results in the Hadron H2 events. With wins in both the Inland and National Championships Josh Hamer was in a strong position going into the last qualifying event (the Solent Trophy). However, he was unable to attend the event, which left the door open for Richard Leftley. But Richard’s task was difficult – he had to win the event in order to take the lead for the Travellers Trophy.
As our previous post described, Richard was trailing Class Chairman Richard Le Mare after the first day but the slightly lighter breeze on the Sunday enabled him to win both races and claim the event and the TT.

The 3 day event was shortened to two days due to lack of wind on the final day. Our new National Champion is current Inland Champion JOSH HAMER, who sailed H2 #159 ‘Dirty Martini’.

On the day after the Inland Championships, Richard Leftley and Richard Le Mare gave a masterclass on rigging and racing the H2. The event is now on YouTube HERE.

There was an excellent turnout for this event. On a day of light and shifting winds, last year’s runner-up, Josh Hamer, became the new Inland Champion after a close tussle with current National Champion Robin Parsons. Two of the lighter H2 helms therefore currently hold the two major H2 titles.

Farnborough International Exhibition Centre, 24-25 February

The Hadron H2 Class Association (stand C36) will be displaying one of the latest H2s.
Harken will have Josh Hamer’s H2 as the centrepiece of their stand (G10).
Marlow Ropes have Richard Le Mare’s sparkly purple H2 on their stand (K40).

Hosted by Highcliffe SC, the 20 competitors enjoyed a wide range of wind and weather conditions. It was a championship in which the lightweights dominated.

Highcliffe SC will be hosting the seventh H2 National Championship next month. This is the biggest sailing and social event in the H2 Class calendar, so do come along to compete, spectate or just mix with a friendly group of (mostly) mature sailors and friends.

The manufacturer of the H2, Hadron Dinghies Ltd, has entered into a partnership with leading composite boatbuilder Winder Boats to produce the mouldings for the H2.

David and his team of skilled laminators have carved out an excellent reputation building championship winning Fireballs, Merlin Rockets, Mirror Dinghies and Solos, among others. David’s works are situated in Yorkshire and Hadron Dinghies anticipate a further increase in orders due to his excellent reputation for quality and service. The H2 will now be added to their range but Hadron Dinghies will continue to fit out each H2 to customers’ individual requirements.
